On the busiest Tuesday last month, I was almost driven crazy by the 'new employee' I hired.

That morning, I confidently opened my computer and looked at the AI Agent I had spent two weeks 'training'. It was automatically handling the scheduling of dozens of client orders in the warehouse according to my instructions. At 3 p.m., Xiao Li, in charge of picking, ran over in a panic: 'Brother Wang, something's wrong! The system scheduled Client A's urgent order last and let Client B's regular goods jump the queue. Client A is calling to complain!'

I looked at the backend and was stunned. The AI Agent was indeed 'working hard'—distributing orders evenly to each picker based on the 'average allocation' algorithm I gave it. But it had no idea that some clients in the warehouse were VIPs, some goods were fragile and needed careful handling, and some orders had to be shipped out tomorrow. Step 1: Don't Make AI a 'Superhero', Make It an 'Apprentice' First

After the failure, I locked myself in the warehouse for a week to rethink the problem.

I pulled up order data from the past three years and looked at each one. I found that actually, 80% of the daily scheduling in the warehouse followed patterns: which clients liked to order in the morning, which goods had to be shipped the same day, which pickers were good at handling fragile items... These 'unwritten rules' were all in the veteran employees' minds, but never written into the system.

I thought then, if even I couldn't clearly explain these rules, how could I expect the AI to understand?

  4. Building an AI system is like raising a child—it requires patience, feedback, and time to grow. Don't expect it to become a genius overnight.
